A Day in the Life of a Content Creator at Gather Social

Ever wondered what goes on in a day in the life of a content creator in the heart of a social media innovation hub? Well, you're in for a treat! Join me as I pull back the curtain and share an insight into the daily routine of a typical day at Gather Social.

Let’s start with a quick introduction! My name is Shannon and I’ve been a member of the Gather team since Autumn 2023 (although it already feels like I’ve been working here a lot longer. In a good way of course!) As a content creator, my role includes supporting team members with their client accounts, creating brand content, assisting with photoshoots, writing blogs and a whole lot more. Every week is truly different with variation between office days and home days which I love, so let’s take a look at what an average day at the office looks like for me.

6.00am: Up bright and early

On a good day, my commute to the office is around 45 minutes. I’m not typically a morning person but I’ve come to love my sleepy bus journey as it allows me time to wake up, watch the sunrise and indulge in a podcast before feeling fresh to start my day.

8.30am: Coffee and catch-ups

As I settle into my cosy space in the office, armed with a cup of steaming coffee, I catch up with the early birds of the office (usually Mary and Sam) and start with posting Instagram stories for clients. I also do a quick check with certain client accounts to make sure that their content is being posted correctly.

9.00am: Morning hustle

When the office starts buzzing with activity, I’ll usually be given a brief for the day which often consists of creating a social media ‘build’ for a client, creating reels, writing blog posts or odd-jobs such as photo editing or website building.

10.00am: Monday meetings

Some mornings, particularly Mondays, I’ll jump on Zoom meetings with clients to discuss the latest updates, progress and feedback regarding the handling of their accounts. These are always useful because talking face-to-face can often be a lot easier than email.

11.00am: Design sharing

If we’re working on a ‘build’ for the day, we’ll often share our designs in our team groupchat to provide inspiration for each other and open the floor for thoughts and support. This can be especially helpful on days when I’m not feeling particularly creative or I’m doubting my designs because a little bit of encouragement from the team can give a massive boost.

12.30pm: Lunchtime

Usually when everyone’s stomachs start to growl is the signal to stop for lunch. Depending on the day, we might pop into town for a cheeky Primark trip or to grab a coffee but we’ll often bring in our own lunch and take time to eat together and catch-up. Popular topics of conversation are what you would imagine for a young, mostly female team; latest trending tv shows, clothes that we’ve recently splurged on and dating horror stories.

1.30pm: Back to work

After a refreshing break, it’s time to pick up where I left off with my brief from the morning. If I’m working on a build, I will often be at the point of converting the size of my designs so that they are suitable for multiple social media platforms and then I’ll work on captions.

3.00pm: Coffee break

Caffeine is always needed around this time as the 3pm lull sets in. If you know, you know!

5.00pm: Home time

Thanks to the flexible working policy, if I get an earlier start on the day, I can head home earlier once I have finished up my work. I send any projects into the group chat that need to be proofread and then head off to make my journey home.
